Ramp down of elective surgeries and procedures at QHC hospitals

Ontario Health has issued a directive for all Ontario hospitals, including Quinte Health Care (QHC) hospitals, to ramp down all elective surgeries and non-emergent procedures by April 12th at 12:01 a.m. in order to preserve critical care and human resource capacity given the increasing case counts and widespread community transmission of COVID-19.

A small number of operating rooms at QHC Belleville General Hospital will remain available for pre-scheduled high-priority and urgent cases.   The Day Surgery programs at QHC Trenton Memorial Hospital (TMH) will only continue for priority paediatric oral/dental surgery and urgent ophthalmology.  Minor Surgery clinics at TMH including colposcopy and cystoscopy will remain at current volumes for the time being.  Endoscopy procedures at QHC BGH and PECMH will also be prioritized with limited procedures continuing.

QHC’s surgical team is currently reviewing cases to determine which surgeries need to continue as planned and which surgeries will need to be deferred and we will be reaching out to patients impacted.  Please note, that if you are NOT contacted, your procedure is proceeding.   All patients impacted will be contacted directly.

We are sincerely sorry for the inconvenience to the patients impacted by the ramp down.
