Virtual Urgent Care

Quinte Health Care is piloting a new Virtual Urgent Care service. We are offering virtual urgent care appointments by video or audio.  This is one more way that we can keep you safe while receiving health care during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Please note, many family physicians are also providing virtual care by phone or video during the pandemic.  Call your primary care provider’s office first to see what services they are offering at this time.  Always follow their recommendations and advice if they have told you to go to the Emergency Department.

Step 1 – Consider if a Virtual Urgent Care visit is appropriate for your symptoms.

If you answer YES to any of the following, or are 2 years of age or younger, you should be seen in-person at an Emergency Department. Please DO NOT request a virtual visit.

  • You have severe chest pain, shortness of breath (causing difficulty talking), extreme bleeding or have experienced trauma

  • You have sudden weakness/numbness of face, arm or leg; difficulty speaking or slurred speech; vision loss; sudden severe headache with no known cause

  • You have a fever AND any ONE of the following:
    • Have an immune system problem
    • Have a complex health problem that will require a physical exam
    • Have difficulties staying awake
    • Have a rash that looks like tiny or expanding bruises
  • You have vomiting and/or diarrhea AND any ONE of the following:
    • Have repeatedly vomited (more than 3 times) and are unable to keep liquids down.
    • The vomit or diarrhea contains blood.
    • Have not passed urine in more than 8 hours
  • You have a headache AND any ONE of the following:
    • New onset of a severe headache
    • Headache associated with repeated vomiting
    • Worsening headache following recent head injury
  • You have an injury AND any ONE of the following:
    • A head injury where there was a loss of consciousness (passing out), confusion or repeated vomiting
    • A cut that may need stitches or stitch removal.
    • A burn with blisters that are larger than a Loonie
    • Concern you have a broken bone
    • An eye injury
    • An injury causing chest or stomach pain

If you do not have any of the symptoms listed above, you may be able to be seen through Virtual Urgent Care.

Step 2 – Click one of the Virtual Urgent Care links below to start your virtual visit.

Registration staff are available Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. to schedule your virtual urgent care appointment. Please register using one of the links below and a registration staff member will get back to you during those hours. As this is a new service that QHC is piloting, please bear with us as we get this service running efficiently. Appointments are not available weekends or statutory holidays and may not be available on certain weekdays until we increase our staffing levels. Your appointment is not guaranteed to be booked same-day.

If you are in severe distress or experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911 or go to your nearest Emergency Department. If at any point your symptoms are worsening while waiting for your virtual visit, please proceed to your nearest Emergency Department for an in-person visit.

Privacy

A virtual visit means that we will be using audio and video technologies for your visit. Virtual care sessions are not recorded, but they will be documented in your electronic health record as would happen during an in-person visit.

Quinte Health Care has taken all reasonable steps to ensure the ongoing privacy and security of virtual care sessions.  If you are concerned about engaging in virtual care, please proceed to the nearest appropriate in-person care location.  By proceeding with the virtual visit, this will be considered consent to participate in virtual care.
